Install the REM CLI

rem launches apps from your working directory, tails logs and manages clusters, databases and buckets from the terminal.

Your platform

Pick your system.

Safari and Firefox always report an Intel Mac, so Apple Silicon is preselected unless your browser says otherwise. Check Apple menu → About This Mac or run uname -m (arm64 = Apple Silicon).

1. Install

One command. Installs to ~/.local/bin (or /usr/local/bin when run as root).

Terminal
$curl -fsSL https://console.rem.lettuce.run/install.sh | sh
  • Picks the build for your system, downloads it from this console and verifies its SHA-256 before installing.
  • Prints a PATH hint if ~/.local/bin is not on your PATH yet.
  • Set REM_VERSION=x.y.z to pin a version or REM_INSTALL_DIR to choose the directory.

Manual download

Prefer to do it yourself? Download the archive, check it, put rem on your PATH.

Extract and install

Terminal
$tar -xzf rem-<version>-aarch64-apple-darwin.tar.gz
$xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ./rem 2>/dev/null || true
$mkdir -p ~/.local/bin && mv rem ~/.local/bin/

2. Verify

Check the download against SHA256SUMS, then confirm the install.

Terminal
$grep ' rem-<version>-aarch64-apple-darwin.tar.gz$' SHA256SUMS | shasum -a 256 -c
$rem --version

The checksum command prints rem-<version>-aarch64-apple-darwin.tar.gz: OK.

3. Sign in and launch

Next steps once rem is on your PATH.

  1. rem login opens your browser for TableCheck SSO (MFA required) and hands a short-lived token to the terminal.
  2. rem whoami shows who you are signed in as and your teams.
  3. rem launch in a repo detects the build and creates an app with a URL.

Upgrade

The CLI updates itself.

Terminal
$rem upgrade --check
$rem upgrade

rem upgrade --check only reports whether a newer version exists. Re-running the install command also upgrades; to install a specific version set REM_VERSION:

Terminal
$curl -fsSL https://console.rem.lettuce.run/install.sh | REM_VERSION=0.3.5 sh
